A note from Cheryle...
Chuck has opened up the world of wine for so many people over the years. His joy is teaching and watching our guests get excited over a wine they have never had...and will probably never have again.
My joy on this trip was watching him get excited! Whether it was shaking the hands of his favorite Riesling producers or maybe it was when he walked through the Grand Cru vineyards of Burgundy with his best friend and fellow Master Sommelier, Nunzio, or maybe standing on the top of Hermitage at La Chappelle, which we hiked up to.
His excitement became apparent when he agreed to hug the vines of Chambertin and stand on the wall of Romanee Conti, just like Aubert de Villaine did so many years ago to pose for a picture. He has so many stories to tell, I hope you can make it to Vino or Hiroshi Eurasion Tapas soon!

"Wine Tasting with Chuck" - Thursday October 15th 6 pm
Mark your calendars…..this will be our next wine tasting. As regulars know, we have been fascinated with the wines coming out of the Paso Robles region, especially recently. The limestone soils, the hillsides, the 100 degree days & 50 degree nights…AND most importantly a collection of young turks are really making quite the splash in the ocean of wines. If one peruses through the last Robert Parker issue, you would be flabbergasted at how the region’s top wines scored. This really means, the wines are sure to get harder & harder to get. So…we thought….why not try a few, while we have some. Here is the incredible line-up……….
--2007 GRAVES Grenache Blanc "Monkey Wrench" - not yet rated
--2007 DENNER Viognier - 90 points
--2007 VILLA CREEK Garnacha “Denner Vineyard” - not yet rated
--2006 TERRY HOAGE “The Pick” - 90 points
--2006 BOOKER “The Alchemist” - 92 points
--2006 SAXUM “Broken Stones” - 97 points
There you have it….6 wines….2 ounces each…..$45 a person (not including tax & gratuity). By Reservations ONLY. 533-4476.
It should quite a tasting! AND….show the vast potential this region really has for producing top notch wines.

"VINO's Fall Menu" - Wednesday, October 21st
As VINO regulars know, Chef Keith Endo is one culinarily crazy Chef. As an example, he came over the other night to see the pictures of Cheryle’s & my recent trip to Europe. One of the pictures showed the most incredible butter we have ever had. So, naturally, today, Keith makes his own butter for us to try! He also went down to Chinatown this morning to buy fresh akule, in addition to his friend delivering fresh local octopus he & his father caught this morning. The point being…….it never ends for Keith. His latest culinary endeavor is his New Fall Menu which will be unveiled on Wednesday, October 21st. I, for one, just can’t wait.

Ask Chuck...
What happens when you put together somebody who is a wealth of knowledge...and who loves to share it?
Chuck.
One of my favorite parts of working with Chuck is that has an unbelievable amount of knowledge about not just wine, but food and spirits also, and he loves to share it. I have worked for many before him who are smart...but they aren't willing to share the knowledge. Chuck is just the opposite! He loves to share the knowledge, help you understand and help those who are interested in learning, learn.
So, I open it up to you, what would you ask Chuck if you had a chance? Email me your question and I will ask Chuck and try to include some of the most interesting questions and answers in future newsletters!

Now On to Wines………
2008 KENNEDY POINT Sauvignon Blanc NEW By The Glass
The hype & accolades for New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is definitely a growing….& quite meteorically. Oh my goodness. Here is one of the real standouts for us. What separates Kennedy Point from all of the rest is delicious-ness. It has purity, sleekness, balance & most importantly delicious-ness. See for yourself.
2007 LA COQ Rouge NEW By The Glass
Speaking of delicious-ness…….here is an absolutely delicious, sumptuous glass of southern French ‘country” red wine. The blend has good chunks of Merlot & Cabernet to it, but done with a soft, thankfully restrained touch AND without compromising the regional “garrigue” nuances from the surrounding wild, sun baked Mediterranean countryside….a little bit of wild herbs aromas, sun baked earth & the wild flowers. Must be because of the bees….don’t you think? As they go from flower to flower…..they must leave some scents behind.
2007 QUENARD Pinot Noir “Chignin” NEW By The Glass
Here is a light colored, delicate, highly refined French Pinot Noir…..grown at 6000 feet elevation in the foothills of the French Alps. VERY pretty & nuanced…..a far CRY from anything American. More like a whisper…..it definitely has something to say….just more quietly. Finesse.
2001 LA SPINETTA Barbaresco “Starderi”
One of the most profound, enlightening insights on our recent trip to Europe was a renewed respect & admiration for the true Masters of the winemaking world, from Chave in Hermitage …….to Roulot in Meursault……to Donnhoff in the Nahe. There are but a few of these enological geniuses/artists. To that list, one could easily add Giorgio Rivetti of La Spinetta.
When he first released his 2001’s, the wine media (& subsequently the wine collecting world) went crazy. For any doubters, we recommend you try them now. Majestic. Magnificent. Glorious!
Here is your opportunity to try his 2001 Barbaresco "Starderi Vineyard". If you check online at www.wine-searchers.com, this very wine ranges in price between $100 & $140 a bottle. $85 a bottle……..for the month of October…..only at VINO.
Warm Regards,
